This is my wife, Julia Weston Faunce Carragan, as recently painted by Hedvig Lockwood of Hudson, New York. It was created from a photograph of Julie taken at Camp Dippikill in the southern Adirondacks in about 1980, where after making an ascent and having firelight dinner with other climbers she was listening to great stories of brave exploits. It really captures her extraordinary intensity quite well. I am posting it now because April 2, 2017, would have been our 51st wedding anniversary. Look in this space this summer for a transcript of some of the 519 pages of diary she kept in the Falkland Islands while she was teaching there in 1984.
